History
In 2008, the Galt Museum & Archives was doing as all non-profits do, looking for an original and fun fundraiser. Because so much of the museum seems to take place “behind the scenes” and we get so many requests from the public to know what is in our Collections, we thought it would be fun to have an “ADOPT AN ARTIFACT” fundraiser.
This fundraiser was created and done in December 2008 for the first time. It was a great hit and museums from around the world emailed the staff member responsible to ask questions because they were interested in imitating the idea.
The one piece of feedback we got frequently though was that our timing was poor – that people wanted to give their item as a Christmas gift and since we ended bidding on Dec 31 2008, it didn’t work for Christmas.
Today
Here we are, early November 2009, taking the advice of our bidders last year and telling everyone that we have the most fun unique Christmas ideas ever AND you get a tax receipt AND you support the Galt’s three Collections by participating!
The Galt will be hyping this fundraiser through Facebook, Twitter, the Galt’s blog and media exposure – we want bidding wars, we want challenges from one business to another, we want you to have fun while helping us raise money!
What you get
High bidder for each item will get:
1. A photograph and history of the item
2. A behind the scenes tour to see the item in 2010
3. A tax receipt for their bid amount
4. An opportunity to showcase to our community what a great supporter you are of our local history and preserving it
5. Businesses can put signature lines and more in bidding profile so exposure for your business EVERY TIME you bid!
What you don’t get
Ownership of the item – the Galt Museum & Archives retains ownership of all artifacts
Bidding rules
Bidding ends at 4:30 pm on November 30th, 2009
Bids start at $20.00 for ALL items.
All bidders must be registered with a name, phone number and email address. If a bidder's contact information (which is only viewable to the moderator) seems incomplete or spam, we will contact the bidder and/or delete their bids.
If you cannot access the internet, wish to bid anonymously, do not wish to register to bid but still wish to participate, or you have problems with the registration/bidding process, please contact Lori Harasem at lori.harasem@galtmuseum.com or 403-320-4219. We will help you with the bidding and can bid on your behalf.
The Fine Print
All artifacts are entrusted for the citizens of Lethbridge to the Galt Museum & Archives where they are kept in climate-controlled conditions, in the Collections storage area, in temporary displays at public locations such as the Lethbridge Public Library, and in Discovery Hall exhibit spaces.
"Adoption" is in name only and the "adoption" is valid for 2010
